Your Life Is the Most Important Story You’ll Ever Write

Today is my birthday—I just turned 53—and I find myself reflecting on the story of my own life. The twists, the turns, the leaps of faith, and the quiet moments of clarity. And I realize something important: your life is the most important story you’ll ever take part in.

Not too long ago, I got married—for the first time—at 51. This August, we’ll be celebrating our second anniversary. It’s a reminder to me that there is no “wrong” time for joy, for love, for the chapters that truly matter to your heart.

The story of my life has not been a straight path. I spent 22 years in a career that never felt quite right. I tried two other paths, unsure if I’d ever find my place, until I finally landed in a day job that feels like me. It brings me satisfaction, energy, and a sense of purpose I hadn’t experienced before.

And that shift has done something beautiful: it’s given me the mental and emotional resources to return to my other love—writing. For years, my pen waited while life’s changes took center stage. But now, I can finally pour words onto the page with focus and passion.

The truth I want to share with you is this: just like the heroes in the stories I love to write, we all face dark moments, moments of doubt, moments when it feels like our story might be stuck. But your story isn’t over, not by a long shot. You are never stuck in your final chapter.

If there’s a part of your life that isn’t right, if there’s a dream you’ve shelved or a change you’ve been hesitant to make, I want to encourage you to have faith in yourself. Take the leap. Embrace the journey. Keep writing your story, even when it feels hard.

Because one day, when you look back, you’ll see the narrative of your own life as a tale of resilience, courage, and ultimately, joy. You’ll realize that the happy ending you’ve been hoping for wasn’t waiting for you in the future—it was being written every day, in every choice, every risk, every moment you decided not to give up.

So here’s to turning pages, to rewriting chapters, and to celebrating the life you’re creating. If my journey has taught me anything, it’s that it’s never too late to find your way, to take your shot, and to discover the happiness that has been waiting for you all along.

Your life is your story—make it a great one.
